BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- China's political advisors were urged on Friday to provide suggestions for the transformation of the country's economic growth mode and social harmony and stability.
Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the call at a meeting of the top political advisory body's chairman and vice chairpersons.
Jia, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, urged members of the CPPCC to contribute ideas on the transformation of China's economic growth mode and help the country retain steady and relatively fast economic growth.

They should also play an important role in helping safeguard social harmony and stability, he said.
The meeting discussed and passed a number of documents and reports, and also decided to strip Zhang Chunjiang, former party chief and vice chairman of China Mobile, of his membership to the 11th CPPCC National Committee.
Known as the government's "think tank", the CPPCC's main function is to conduct political consultations, exercise democratic supervision and discuss the handling of state affairs
