LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Hollywood veteran David Rubin was elected the 35th president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization's Board of Governors said on Tuesday evening.
Rubin is the first casting director to assume the presidency. He succeeds the current president, cinematographer John Bailey, who is terming out after two years in the position.
According to a statement of the Academy, Rubin is beginning his first term as Academy president and his seventh year as a governor representing the Casting Directors Branch.
Rubin has more than 100 credits, such as "The English Patient" (1996), "Men in Black" (1997), "Hairspray" (2007), and "Lars and the Real Girl" (2007).
The Academy is a global community of more than 9,000 of the most accomplished artists, filmmakers and executives. It is known around the world for its annual Academy Awards, the Oscars.
