BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- A solo jazz concert starring Japanese bossa nova singer Lisa Ono will hit the stage at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) on May 18.
As a grand finale of the NCPA May Festival from May 2 to 18, Chinese jazz fans will be given the chance to experience Lisa Ono's signature natural voice, rhythmic guitar playing and charming smile.
Bossa nova, literally meaning "new trend," is a style of Brazilian music developed and popularized in the 1950s and 1960s, and is today one of the best-known Brazilian music styles worldwide.
Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Lisa Ono spent her childhood in Brazil and started singing and playing guitar at 15 years old under the influence of her father.
Soon after making her debut in 1989, she gained widespread popularity and became an ambassador of bossa nova music in Japan.
Her music was introduced to China in 2004 and won the heart of jazz fans, especially among young urban residents.
