LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Universal's Afghan war movie " Lone Survival" topped North American box office this week with a 38.5-million-dollar circulation for its debut.
The Peter Berg-directed war film starring Mark Wahlberg marked the second-biggest January opening ever, only behind the 40- million-dollar debut of "Cloverfield", and exceeded the expectations, analysts said.
"Frozen" got the second place pocketing some 15 million dollars in the eighth week. It has grossed nearly 320 million dollars in North America in 50 days.
"The Wolf of Wall Street" was in the third place, with an estimated 9 million dollars this weekend.
Rounding out the 10 most popular films in North America this weekend, as estimated by studios, were "Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug" (8 million dollars), "August: Osage County" (7.3 million dollars), "Saving Mr. Banks" (6.6 million dollars), "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" (6.3 million dollars) and "Anchorman 2" (6.1 million dollars).
