Despite being honored at international film festivals such as Cannes, Venice and New York, Doyle said he was nervous when accepting the award in Shanghai as it was his first on the Chinese mainland. Working extensively in China over the past 27 years, Doyle thanked the local directors he has teamed up with for giving him abundant experience.

As sequel to his debut The Last Kiss, Gabriele Muccino's Kiss Me Again explores the meaning of friendship and romance and it conquered the jury, chaired by acclaimed filmmaker John Woo, to take Best Feature Film.

Vittoria Puccini, who stars in both films, won Best Actress but neither Muccino or Puccini were at the ceremony. Christian Ulmen, who won Best Actor for Wedding Fever in Campobello, was also absent.

Several Chinese A-list stars were not seen on the red carpet this year. The only highlight was actress Zhao Wei's appearance, but that was expected as she was on this year's jury.
