BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. actor Charlie Sheen pleaded not guilty on Monday to charges of assaulting his wife.
According to the Associated Press, Brooke Mueller, Sheen's wife, told police Sheen pulled a knife on her and threatened to have her killed when she said she would divorce him on Dec. 25 during a family vacation in Aspen. Charlie Sheen told police they were arguing but denied threatening to kill her.
Sheen was charged with menacing, criminal mischief and assault. Menacing, the most serious charge, may face a sentence of one to three years in prison.

The court set a July 21 trial date, although Sheen's wife, Brooke Mueller, would like the case dropped.
Stan Rosenfield, Sheen's agent, said, "Charlie is looking forward to the opportunity to clear his name."
Charlie Sheen, born on Sept. 3, 1965, is the star of America's most-watched TV comedy "Two and a Half Men."
