BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- A number of singers rerecorded the charity anthem "We Are the World" at the Jim Henson Studios in Hollywood Monday night, to raise money for Haiti earthquake relief.
Quincy Jones, who produced the 1985 anthem, announced last week that he planned to redo the song to benefit recovery efforts after the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12.
On Monday, stars converged on Studio A in the afternoon and stayed several hours. Lionel Richie, who wrote the original with Michael Jackson, and Quincy Jones worked with a select number of soloists, including Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, late into the night.
The song will air for the first time on 12 February on US TV channel NBC. It will be shown during coverage of the opening ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
The original "We Are the World" thundered up the charts when it was released in March 1985.
