LOS ANGELES, April 12 (Xinhua) -- American television's teen idol Miley Cyrus extended her newly-found charm in multiplexes this Easter weekend, with her second big-screen production "Hannah Montana: The Movie" grossing an estimated 34 million U.S. dollars over the three-day period.

Disney's new Hannah movie, after the success of a 3-D big-screen version of Cyrus' concert last year, became the biggest-grossing April movie in the studio's history, and garnered the fourth-highest opening tally in any April, according to box office tracker Media By Numbers Sunday.

    The movie opened in 3,118 theaters in the United States and Canada on Friday with 17.3 million dollars, the best opening day showing in Hollywood's history for a live-action G-rated picture.

    DreamWorks Animation's "Monsters vs Aliens," in its third week in release, pulled in 22.6 million dollars, placing third for the weekend, with a total of 141 million dollars since its release.
