Medicare pays for hearing tests, but not hearing aids and those average around 4700 a pair.
A government advisory group suggesting that simple devices for mild hearing loss be sold over the counter for people who don't need or can't afford the “real” prescription ones, like glasses you get at the drugstore.
The National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine report in general recommends making hearing loss treatment easier and cheaper.
